Region
2 Demo team after the demonstration
On
Sunday 21 June, students from Tunbridge Wells, Epsom, and Croydon travelled
to Southborough to participate in a Region 2 Tang Sou Dao martial arts
demonstration organised by Regional Instructor Master Adam Goward (6th
Duan). It was a bright sunny day - luckily not a drop of rain in sight
which meant a dry field for our demonstration!
The
team met at 1:30pm under the gazebo kindly provided by Reigate Instructor,
Shawn Feltham and Master Goward planned out the running order for the
demonstration.
The
team began with some basic techniques and leg stretches followed by
Pinan Form one. Duan grades then performed Pinan Form five together.
A
selection of breaking techniques then followed on tiles and breeze blocks
by junior and senior members, including a very effective punch and knife
hand by David Russell, a jump side kick through a breeze block by Russell
Jones and a knee-level kick and spinning roundhouse kick by Jake Fisher.

The
team then demonstrated one-step sparring including take downs, followed
by Master
Tina Matania and Shawn Feltham providing a display of self-defence techniques
with Shawn armed with a bottle.
The
team then participated in free-sparring (tooi-ta) which the crowd enjoyed.
Duan
grades performed Luohan Form three in unison, followed by Master Matania
performing the slow kicking form.
