The
afternoon continued with a further analysis of the scoring system: 1
point for a clear punch / kick .... 2 points for evasion and counter
attack, or block and counter attack, or jumping kick (both feet off
the ground).
1st
Ji red belt Mr Chris Edmunds from East Grinstead - a clear cher chaui
ti (side thrust kick) evaded by his opponent

Duan grades demonstrating a clear one point score for Cher Chuai Ti
(side thrust kick). Note that the side kick scores as it has gone past
the Sia Duan Tang (low block) before it is completed. Referee Master
Colin Calvin.
Grandmaster
Loke reminded everyone of the importance of the 'Harn' - shout. This
is important to indicate that the strike is intentional. A point cannot
be scored unless a shout accompanies the attacking technique.
Mr
Nick Evagorou, 2nd Duan Croydon and sparring partner 'think alike' -
with a simultaneous spin back kick
Everyone
was reminded that the specified target area is from the opponent's head
down to the belt (front) and for Duan grades only the back above the
belt (non contact). This is because Duan grades have a higher skill
level than lower grades, and extra caution and control is required when
targeting the back of the opponent.

for the side kick underneath the opponent's guard. Referee is Master
Colin Underwood
