20 March 2005

Pictures may take time to load but are worth waiting for -
thanks for your patience.

At 3pm on Sunday 20th March 2005, students gathered at National Headquarters, Cromwell Road, Grays, Essex for the lesson before their grading examination.

At 4pm the grading started.

The first students to be graded by Grandmaster Loke and his panel consisting of Master Chris Cook, Master Keith Blakemore and Master Siew Ying Loke, were the 7th and 8th Ji, yellow belts / orange tags.

Grandmaster Loke positioned a senior student with them to illustrate correct technique. The 7th and 8th Ji students underwent a sparring test against more senior students, to demonstrate courage and ability in blocking, striking and evasion.

Everyone completed the obligatory 'huey koong' breaking technique successfully.

The 10th Ji, white belt students were then called.

Everyone performed well during their first test under the
guidance of Grandmaster Loke, with events conducted
by Mrs Stephanie Debenham (3rd Duan).

9th Ji, yellow tag students were excited to complete their examination ...
... and they put maximum effort into their 'chean chuai ti' front thrust kick breaking technique.

A mix of age groups (as for the earlier examinations) was in evidence for the testing of the 6th and 5th Ji, orange belts and green tags.

Students concentrated on technical improvement, for example with 'nei pei tang', the inside to outside block.

Drop kicks were performed well for their breaking techniques

with good velocity and shaping of the foot to ensure
a successful trajectory through the target

The final group to be called were the group consisting of one young 2nd Ji blue belt, and several 3rd and 4th Ji grades (blue tag and green belts).

Forms were performed with vigour and style under the watchful eye of the panel.

Grandmaster Loke required the 2nd Ji, blue belt student to perform a slow kicking technique -

'chean chuai ti' front thrust kick, accompanied by Mrs Stephanie Debehham (3rd Duan). The leg had to be slowly extended and held in position demonstrating muscle strength and tone.

Several rounds of free-sparring were completed.
The first round was with students of similar grade.

Students were then assigned more senior partners.

.

They were required to demonstrate intelligent, powerful
attacking and blocking ...

... and a good understanding of the application of timing, footwork and evasive manoeuvres.

The final elements of the grading were the 2-4th Ji breaking techniques ....

jump front kick for the 4th Ji green belts ...

and 'hou chuai ti', back thrust kick for the 3rd Ji, green belt blue tags.
