Region 2 Grading at Haywards Heath
10 April 2005


On Sunday 10th April 2005 students from Master Goward's Region 2 (Surrey, Sussex and Kent) arrived at the Dolphin Leisure Centre, Haywards Heath for the Region's Grading Examination.


Warm-up (Nuan-Sern)

The lesson before the grading began at 3pm with the customary warm-up (nuan sern) session.

Master Goward (5th Duan) then took students through the lesson before the grading examination.

Students had the opportunity to practise their forms ...


... and their one and three step sparring.

Master Goward then demonstrated one-step sparring to the class - highlighting low and high target areas and positioning.

At 4pm the grading itself began. First with the 8th Ji yellow belts ...

... and then the 10th Ji white belts.

Two 10th Ji students were promoted to 8th Ji yellow belt as they had trained previously and met the required standard. Master Goward asked them to perform front thrust kick (chean chuai ti) on the white break-board.

The grading continued with the higher Ji grades ...

2nd Ji blue belt, Tim Eves (Horsham) endured the 5 minutes horse-stance (ping ma bu) requirement whilst the lower Ji grades took their examination.

The grading ended with the customary short meditation, to relax the body and mind.

All students performed well and enjoyed the day.
