Demonstration at the Excel Exhibition Centre, Royal Victoria Dock, London

February 2005

On 13th February 2005, Grandmaster Loke's demonstration team from Essex and Kent were invited to provide a demonstration at the 6th London Judo International public competition to start the day's event.

We would like to thank event organiser Mr Bernard Richmond, Sensei and his organising committee for their kind invitation.

The demonstration started with a warm-up session, followed by group form Luohan 3 led by Master Adam Blakemore, demonstrating agility, proficiency, balance and power.

Several breaking techniques were then performed:
- Back thrust kick - James Slade, 1st Duan,
- Inside drop kick - Danielle Young, 1st Duan,
- Jump roundhouse kick - Sahin Ayanoglou, 2nd Duan
- Jump side kick - William Grove, 1st Duan
- Jump front kick, William Parsons, 1st Duan
- Jump drop kick, Robert Little, 2nd Duan

Laura Askell, 3rd Duan, then performed combination hand and leg breaking techniques.

Laura Askell, 3rd Duan, preparing to perform two hand techniques to break tile stacks followed by spin back kick through a wooden board held by Master Ronketti

This was followed by pre-arranged one step sparring (ee puh tooi ta) by Master Colin Calvin and Robert Little, 2nd Duan - an application of hand and leg techniques using evasion and the fundamental principles of line, distance and timing.

Master Siew Ying Loke then performed Luohan 4 form. This is a difficult form to master as it requires skill in both short range and long range techniques, combining power generation with a smooth flowing series of techniques - illustrating defensive and precision attacking movements.

William Parsons, 1st Duan and Master Colin Calvin then performed short range advanced hand techniques breaking concrete blocks with the knife fist (tau chuen kong chee) and palm heel attack (chang kern kong chee).

Our Anti-Smoking campaign followed - with Master Adam Blakemore executing a roundhouse kick and spin back combination against a cigarete held by Laura with tiles overhead, followed by a jump spin back kick striking an apple off the tip of a sharp knife, and then a double jump side kick over a table. This showed dexterity, skill and precision.

The group then demonstrated free-sparring for spectators, which was followed by Master Siew Ying Loke's performance of Ladies Self-Defence advanced techniques with Master Steve Ronketti which required balance, technical accuracy and expertise.
