Foreword from Grandmaster Loke

I want to thank everyone for the success of our 2007 Team Championships. The true spirit & sincerity of all officials, participants and supporters ensured the smooth running and enjoyment for the whole day. All "tooi ta" teams and the demonstration team are to be specially commended for their great effort and sportsmanship- some have travelled from afar. This is also an achievement for instructors who have dedicated so much time and hard work in inculcating our Ren Yi Wu Kwan principles as well as technical skills to their students.

Dr Tariq Qureshi, from the Oxford First Aid Unit deserves our special thanks. For some years now, he and his team have professionally attended to all the usual First Aid requirements one would find in any major fighting competition. He has commented, more than once, on his amazement at one minute having to treat the "injury of all injuries" and seeing next minute his 'patients', both big and small, belting back to the ring to continue the match. The consummate professional, he and his team helped add considerably to the ever smooth running and management of a Tang Sou Dao competition.

In loving memory of Bill Edwards, the Award for the Best under-16 student of 2007 was awarded to Oliver Salter, a conscientious young student from our Reading wu kwan highly praised by his instructor Master Nazim Gokcezade. Oliver is the 20th recipient of our prestigious annual award. Congratulations!!

I also want to give praise to instructors and students who provided a brilliant demonstration on 1st September at the occasion of Malaysia's 50th Independence Day Carnival at Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre in Brickendonbury, Hertfordshire. A commemorative DVD has been produced with assistance from Mr Panayiotis Evagorou of Croydon wu kwan. Well Done!

My interview with 'Combat Magazine' appeared on the front cover in their October/ November issue. My purpose of this interview is to give a more in-depth explanation of our Ren Yi Wu Kwan - an established style in its own right. We stand proudly on our own: technically, in our development, history and ethos.

For many of you who have endured with me from the seventies, the eighties and the nineties, I thank you for your loyalty, patience and dedication. My family and I have greatly enjoyed your close friendship (and humour!) in the last thirty or so years. We have moved on boldly, quite a distance, I may add. With our constant eye on continued development, the Martial Art Way "Wu Dao" is truly unending. So much more can still be achieved in our lifetime whilst laying a strong foundation for the next generation, and beyond.

I deliberately chose the name "Tang Sou Dao" (Tang dynasty/ Chinese Hand Way) for our art, thus proudly returning this generic Chinese term (commonly adopted by Okinawan / Japanese / Korean Karate Tang Soo Do schools) back to its oriental mother language and civilisation - my Chinese roots and in respect of my late Chinese Shifu Lim Cheng Hock (1940-1998) of my native Penang, Malaysia.

My family and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year for 2008. Tang Sou !!
