On Saturday 1st December we held a charity Christmas disco for my students, their families and friends.

After two months of planning and organising the social event ran smoothly and everyone had an enjoyable evening, especially the young students who kept dipping their hands in the chocolate fountain!

This disco was organised as a fun social for us to meet and socialise outside normal training but also to raise money for a worthy local charity. This year we all decided to donate any profits to the children's ward at our local hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The charity is called Dream Drops and is part of Huntingdonshire's Children's Charity. Dream Drops is a Cambridgeshire Primary Care trust charity which holds and manages funds donated to children's health services in our region. The Dream Drops appeal aims to raise money to make a real difference to children and their families who use hospital or specialist children's health facilities in Huntingdonshire. Money raised will support the extras that are not covered by public funds but which make needing to use health services more tolerable for children and their families.

The event consisted of a disco, licensed bar, buffet and raffle.

To raise money we sold tickets for the event and held a charity raffle on the evening. Raffle prizes were donated by local companies, including Tesco and CC Hair and Nail Design and also many students contributed a prize. Also all the students prepared various food items for the buffet.

In total we raised £404 for the Dream Drops Charity. We sold £218 in disco tickets and £156 in raffle tickets. We also had an extra £30 cash contribution from my student, Paul Childerely's employer, Hallmark Equipment Services. We were going to have to deduct the hall hire cost and disco equipment hire cost but on the evening one of my student's father, Mr Tyler, gave £20 for the disco equipment hire and my father gave £41.50 which was the hall hire cost so all the money we made was available to go direct to the charity.

I would like to thank all my students and their families. They have all worked so hard in the preparation for this event as it takes so much planning.

Every student participated in the event, even the ones that could not make it on the night. From food preparation, raffle prize donations and raffle ticket sales, they all contributed towards it.

I am so proud and overwhelmed by their generosity and how all the students pulled together in a tremendous team effort to raise a large sum of money to help young people in our local hospital.
