Master
Siew Ying Loke with Instructor Steven Treadaway (3rd Duan):
Roundhouse kick (chuan ti)
On Sunday 29th April 2007, Grandmaster Loke and Master Siew Ying Loke
visited us in St Neots, Cambridgeshire to conduct an up-grading examination
and hold a technical workshop for some of the students.

The
event started with a set of warm-ups which was followed by a workshop
conducted by Grandmaster Loke with assistance from Master Siew Ying
Loke.
Grandmaster
Loke went through basic blocks and punches, then moved on to some
basic kicking techniques and some more advanced kicking with evasion
footwork. He explained the importance of the supporting leg during
any kicking technique and correct eye focus. He also covered stances,
forms and correct balance when in stances and whilst performing kicking
techniques. He also covered follow up techniques that can be used
if you over balance during a kicking technique that would be beneficial
to use in any free sparring.
All
the students really enjoyed the lesson conducted by Grandmaster Loke
and were really enthusiastic and trained very hard.
After
the lesson the students were awarded with a short break before the
upgrading examination commenced.

Grandmaster
Loke called the students to line up and they were tested on forms,
basic techniques, three step sparring and breaking techniques on the
breakable boards. He also asked some of the students questions on
technique.

All
the students performed extremely well and had trained very hard over
the last few months ready for the grading. I was very proud of their
conduct and Tang Sou Dao spirit throughout the grading. It was also
good to see support from fellow students who were not actually grading
this time and I would like to thank them for coming along and showing
their support as well as the students families and parents.

The
huey koong breaking techniques element of the grading:

Manson, Neil Crosse, Iain Leaney, Tristian Emery and Ian Davis were
awarded 8th Ji Yellow belt.
Bob
Leggate, Alex Starreveld and George Pumphrey were awarded 7th Ji Orange
tag.
Mark
Kenny, Sophie Kenny, Matthew Kenny, Michelle Meng and Amy Tyler were
awarded 6th Ji Orange Belt and Rebecca Green was awarded 4th Ji Green

A
special mention goes to Rebecca Green who has been training with me
since I started teaching my first Tang Sou Dao class and also to my
oldest student, Bob Leggate who trains at least twice a week even
at 63 years of age. He is a great inspiration and role model to all
the other younger students. I would like to take the opportunity to
thank all my students for their continued support and dedication to
me and the British Tang Sou Dao Federation.
