Demonstration Day at Clayfield Copse
by Nazim Gokcezade (3rd Duan)
16 July 2005
A
few months ago Councillor Mark Ralph phoned me and asked if the Reading
Club would put on a Tang Sou Dao demonstration. The event was Clayfield
Copse and the aim was to attract children under 16 years of age and
to introduce them to the local activities, and, of course, to get them
off the streets.

Also
taking part in the event was rugby, football and tennis clubs for all
the local people. We had a few weeks to get ready for the July event.
I was intending to take just a few students but ended up taking twenty
six. So many children wanted to take part and I had to give in; after
all, this was about showing people the different age groups that did
Tang Sou Dao.

It
was a very sunny and beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky - OK, maybe
a few! We set up our gazebo and all the roof tiles and concrete blocks
were put in place. We took all our sparring pads and other items so
that the general public could come and try out kicks and punches with
help from the students.

Suddenly
I saw two policemen coming towards me; I quickly looked to see where
I had parked the car. No! They came to say hello and introduce themselves.
After a few hours of pad work and helping the public I thought it was
time for an ice cream break.

In
the demonstration the very young did their forms in different combinations
and some as mirror image - not so easy. Local press covered the event
and we were visited by the MP, Rob Wilson. Councillor Make Ralph did
a good job getting us all together, and no, I am not canvassing for
the Councillor.
