National Championships 2006

July 2006On Saturday 8th July 2006 students from Master Goward's Epsom club got together (with their medals and participation certificates) after class for a group photograph to celebrate their achievements at the National Championships. Unfortunately a couple of students from Epsom Downs were missing from the photograph as it's always difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time!

Well done to all those who took part in the Championships, whether as officials, competitors, timekeepers, scorers or combinations of the above! You all showed tremendous spirit and good sportsmanship (and sportswomenship and sportschildrenship! ... yes I am inventing new words now). It was a pleasure to see everyone enjoying the day and competing with spirit and integrity.
After holding our 'Tang Sou Salute' for several minutes (whilst the camera switched itself off momentarily) Master Goward asked the photographer "Can we move yet ... our arms are getting heavy!?"
Sounds like a potential training plan ....?A special thank you to Jonathan King for writing the Championships Report this year and to Simon King for being such a good sport playing 'the attacker' for the ladies self-defence demonstration.
A final note is to express congratulations to our Instructor (and Regional Director) Master Adam Goward who this year is promoted to 6th Duan. Master Goward has through all seasons, year upon year, trained, advised and guided us, and we are most grateful to have him as our instructor and celebrate his promotion to 6th Duan.
