Ji Grade Grading Syllabus - Areas Of Assessment

Area Two - The Practical Test 6th, 5th & 4th Ji Grade (Intermediate Level One)

Stances:

At this stage, stances should be reasonably defined and allow better balance, speed and correct use of hip.

Hand techniques:

Forearm middle section double arm block
Palm heel outside to inside block
Closed fist hook punch
Closed fist vertical punch
Hammer fist inside to outside strike
Hammer fist outside to inside strike
Back fist inside to outside strike
Back fist outside to inside strike
Elbow outside to inside strike
Elbow inside to outside strike
Elbow upward strike
Spear hand vertical thrust
Palm heel forward thrust
Combination hand techniques will be required

Leg techniques:

Round-house kick
Outside to inside drop kick Inside to outside drop kick
Outside to inside crescent kick
Front knee kick (both upwards & forward thrust)
Round-house knee kick
Combination leg techniques will be required

Forms:

7th-6th Ji Chee Pen Ser Thau & Ping an Ee Duan
(Basic form 4 & Ping an form 1)
6th-5th Ji Ping an Ee Duan & Ping an Er Duan
(Ping an form 1 & Ping an form 2)
5th-4th Ji Ping an Er Duan & Ping an San Duan
(Ping an form 2 & Ping an form 3)

Sparring:

7th-5th Ji San puh tooi ta (three step sparring)
5th-4th Ji Ee puh tooi ta (one step sparring)

All grades:

A reasonable level of defensive ability and control will be required.

Impact Testing:

7th-6th Ji Outside to inside drop kick (wai chuai ti)
6th-5th Ji Inside to outside drop kick (nei chuai ti)
5th-4th Ji Jump front kick (thiau chean ti)

From this point onwards, all lower grade impact techniques may be asked for.

General Knowledge:

The candidate must be able to:

- Understand and repeat The Seven Basic Principles
- Have a basic understanding of eye focus, use of stances, speed, power, balance and mental concentration
- Know the Chinese terminology for all the techniques used and in addition, remember the terminology used in the lower grades.
