Ji Grade Grading Syllabus - Areas Of Assessment

Area Two - The Practical Test 3rd, 2nd & 1st Ji Grade (Intermediate Level Two)

Stances:

At this stage, candidates should be flexible enough to use stances correctly in conjunction with evasion involving the Eight Cardinal Points of movement, distance, line and timing. Furthermore, they should have a basic understanding of these principles as they apply to self-defence.

In addition, candidates for 2nd-1st Ji will be required to maintain Horse stance for five minutes.

Hand Techniques:

Forearm low section reverse block
Closed fist twin U-shaped punch
High section double forearm X-block
Round-house 'bull horn' punch Knife hand ground level block Reverse knife hand outside to inside strike
Palm heel downwards block
Reverse knife hand low section groin strike
Reverse knife hand inside to outside block
Low section hammer fist strike
Reverse knife hand low section block
Downward elbow strike
Rear elbow strike

Leg Techniques:

Jump front kick
Round-house knee kick
Jump side kick
45 degree front stomp kick
Back kick
Spinning back kick
Jump outside to inside drop kick
Spinning back drop kick
Jump inside to outside drop kick

Combination of hand and leg techniques will be required

Forms:

4th-3rd Ji Ping an San Duan & Ping an Ser Duan
(Ping an form 3 & Ping an form 4)
3rd-2nd Ji Ping an Ser Duan & Ping an Wu Duan
(Ping an form 4 & Ping an form 5)
2nd-1st Ji Revision of all previous forms including
understanding of its applications

Sparring:

Requirement for all grades;

Three step sparring. All candidates must show versatility and wide range of technique.

One step sparring. Comments as above.

Free sparring. Comments as above and in addition, candidates must show evidence of a good defensive ability, accuracy, timing and control over delivery and impact.

Impact Testing:

4th-3rd Ji Back thrust kick (hou chuai ti)
3rd-2nd Ji Jump side kick (thiau cher ti) OR
one kicking technique with left and right leg
2nd-1st Ji Jump roundhouse kick (thiau chuan ti) plus one kicking technique with left and right leg OR
two different kicking techniques with right and left leg

General Knowledge:

Candidates are expected to:

- Have a basic knowledge of training safety and understand the rules of the Wu Kwan
- Recognise and accept responsibility in the Wu Kwan
- Assist the instructor in teaching beginners
- Understand the meaning of 'Ren Yi Wu Kwan'
- Understand basic physiology of practice
- Understand the principles of movement and evasion
